NEW DELHI, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- India successfully test-fired indigenously developed Dhanush missile Friday from a port in its eastern state of Odisha, officials said.

"The indigenously developed Dhanush missile has been successfully test-fired from Paradeep Port of Odisha this morning," India's state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said.

The missile according to officials was fired from a warship to surface and it successfully hit the target.

Officials said the missile is naval version of Prithvi-II missile with a capacity of hitting the target within 350 km with payload of 500 kg.

"This is the second test after 2015 and now, Dhanush can hit the target from surface-to-surface and sea-to-surface also," AIR said.

The test was carried out by strategic force command of Indian army as part of a user trial.

Strategic force command has been conducting trials of the missiles as part of regular training exercise to reconfirm its readiness.

On Thursday it successfully conducted night trial of its indigenously developed surface-to-surface nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile.
