    Uganda to send team for World University Cross Country Championship

    KAMPALA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will send eight athletes to the 2018 World University Cross Country Championship slated for April 6-7 in Switzerland.

    The Championship will take place at the University of St. Gallen. "We have selected the best athletes from four different Universities," Peninnah Kabenge, the President of National University Sports Federation of Uganda told Xinhua on Tuesday.

    Sadic Bahati, a 10,000-metre gold medalist at the 2016 World University Games and Dorcus Ajok, a middle-distance runner who won a gold medal in the 1500 meters at the 2015 World University Games are making the team. "I am working hard so that I can be in good form to remain champion and win another gold medal," Ajok, a student of Ndejje University told Xinhua.

    Bahati who won Uganda's first gold medal at the 29th World University Games last year said although he started by facing some financial challenges for training, he is getting is now getting on well and looking forward to the event.

    Uganda's team will also have Jane Nabasa from Ndejje University, Agnes Harriet Amuron from Kampala University, Mark Savio Lule, Gilbert Amanya and Joseph Olak, all from Makerere University and Timothy Ambrose Ongom from Kyambogo University.

    The world university cross country championships and netball championships are organized under the umbrella of the federation for the international university sports (FISU). Uganda hosted the world university cross country championship in 2014 in Entebbe.
