KIGALI, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The 13th National Agriculture Show of Rwanda opened Wednesday at Mulindi expo ground in Rwandan capital Kigali, with a call on farmers to transform from subsistence to commerce.

The transformation can be done through promoting the adoption of modern agriculture practices to increase productivity, Rwanda's minister for Agriculture and Animal Resources Gerardine Mukeshimana said at the opening of the show, running until July 3.

"We have to transform agriculture and livestock farming by investing in new technologies... To achieve that, we need to develop research which responds to challenges in agriculture and livestock farming," she said.

The agriculture show has attracted individual farmers' organizations, financial service providers, insurances, agricultural products and equipment companies, international exhibitors and other local and international agricultural agencies.

On display are a wide range of innovations and best practices in the agriculture sector including irrigation and mechanization, information and communication technologies in agriculture, agro-processing and modern livestock.

Rwanda's agricultural export revenues amounted to over 304.6 million U.S. dollars from January to September 2017, increasing from over 232 million dollars earned in the same period in 2016, according to figures from the National Agriculture Exports Development Board.
