THIMPHU, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly of Bhutan, the country's lower house of bicameral Parliament, will dissolve on Aug. 1, 2018 to make way for the general election.

The house, consists of 32 members from the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and 15 members from the opposition Bhutan Peace and Prosperity party (DPT), is set to dissolve with a traditional Buddhist ceremony in the Assembly hall offering prayers.

Following the concluding ceremony of their five-year tenure, the two parties would prepare for the upcoming general election.

This year, the election commission of Bhutan has approved four political parties including the PDP, DPT, Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) and Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) to compete for the general election.

An interim government will be appointed before the resignation of the prime minister and ministers. The interim government will be headed by Chief Justice of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Wangchuk. The interim government will serve till the new prime minister is elected via the general election.

This will be Bhutan's third general election following the successful establishment of democracy in 2008.
