WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The White House said here on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump has received a letter from Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), while not revealing its contents.

Confirming that Trump received the letter on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement that "the ongoing correspondence between the two leaders is aimed at following up on their meeting in Singapore and advancing the commitments made in the U.S.-DPRK joint statement."

Earlier on Thursday, Trump thanked Kim via Twitter for returning the remains of fallen U.S. soldiers from the 1950-1953 Korean War.

Trump said, "I am not at all surprised that you took this kind action. Also, thank you for your nice letter - l look forward to seeing you soon!"

The repatriation of 55 boxes of U.S. service members was part of the commitment made by Trump and Kim in their Singapore summit on June 12. A ceremony was held on Wednesday in Hawaii to receive the remains.
