LOS ANGELES, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The nominations for the 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Tuesday, with HBO's drama series champ "Game of Thrones" setting a new record with 32 nominations -- the most for any program in a single season.

The result helps HBO to retake No. 1 spot for most nominations by platform this year, giving it a total of 137 and beating Netflix which was second with 117.

NBC came in third with 58 nominations, followed by Amazon which received 47 nods.

Besides "Game of Thrones," Amazon's critic-favorite comedy "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," FX's "Pose," BBC America's "Killing Eve," HBO's "Succession" and NBC's "This Is Us" also picked up a handful of nominations.

The year 2018 had marked the first year that Netflix received more total nominations than HBO, ending the premium-cable channel's 17-year domination. But HBO made a strong comeback this year in nominations for the 71st annual Emmy awards.

The 71st Emmy Awards show will be presented on September 22 in Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
