JAKARTA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for tourism and healthcare on the resort island of Bali on Wednesday, marking a significant step in the country's efforts to develop its health tourism industry.
During his visit, the president also inaugurated the Bali International Hospital, whose groundbreaking ceremony was led by former President Joko Widodo in 2021.
"I think this is a breakthrough, the first time in our Republic that we have initiated or created a special economic zone designated for world-class, international-standard health services," Prabowo said.
He expressed the hope that the Sanur SEZ could become an option for Indonesian citizens who are accustomed to seeking treatment abroad, considering that the Bali International Hospital offers international-standard health services.
Situated on an area of around 67,000 square meters and equipped with over 250 beds, the Bali International Hospital is located near the popular Sanur tourist area and has been in operation since April. ■
