JAKARTA, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's state-owned mining holding company, MIND ID, has set a target of reducing carbon emissions by 21.4 percent by 2030, a senior official said on Wednesday.
Binahidra Logiardi, division head of sustainability at MIND ID, said the target is part of a broader transformation towards low-carbon operations in the national mining industry.
According to Binahidra, the group's total energy demand is projected to rise from 48,000 terajoules in 2023 to 266,000 terajoules by 2030.
Despite this increase, he said the volume of carbon emissions is expected to decline by 21.4 percent in 2030 due to transformation efforts undertaken by all MIND ID members.
"As a state-owned mining holding company, we are committed to supporting the government's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," Binahidra was quoted as saying in East Java Province on Wednesday.
"In addition to mining and creating added value, we are also striving to ensure environmental sustainability for the future of Indonesia," he added.
He said the company remains committed to enhancing operational performance to strengthen the national industrialization ecosystem. ■
