SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tech giant LG Electronics posted a single-digit fall in third-quarter operating profit due to the negative effect of the U.S. tariffs imposition, the company said Monday.
Preliminary operating profit diminished 8.4 percent from a year earlier to 688.9 billion won (482.5 million U.S. dollars) in the July-September quarter.
The reduction came from external headwinds including escalating U.S. tariffs, but the profit surpassed recent market forecasts by more than 10 percent.
Preliminary revenue shrank 1.4 percent to 21.88 trillion won (15.3 billion dollars) in the third quarter, but it marked the second-highest ever for a third quarter in the company's history. ■
