ACCRA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Ghana will play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Comoros 1-0 in its final qualifier on Sunday.
Despite needing just a point to qualify, the Black Stars set their stall out to attack from the start. However, Comoros, the only side to have beaten Ghana in the qualifiers, put up a spirited performance and nearly scored in the third minute.
After a goalless first half, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus scored the game's only goal in the 47th minute to the delight of the almost 35,000 spectators at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With the win, Ghana tops Group I with 25 points and secures the sole automatic ticket from the group to qualify for its fifth World Cup.
Madagascar finished second with 19 points, with Mali third on 18 points. Comoros, the Central African Republic and Chad followed with 15, eight and one point, respectively.
Ghana featured at the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022 World Cups, with its best performance being a quarterfinal finish in 2010. ■
