DOHA, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Qatari senior official called on the EU to do more to resolve the ongoing crisis surrounding the Gulf country, Qatar News Agency reported Wednesday.

Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, the chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, made the call on Tuesday during his visit to France, one of the legs of his European tour.

According to al-Marri, the neutral position may lead to collusion and encourage continuing violations of human rights.

"We call on the EU to join international human rights organizations to support efforts for an immediate end to the siege imposed on Qatar," he said.

The Qatari senior official also highlighted the official report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which condemned the violations against the Qatari people.

In January, the EU High Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini called on all parties to enter into negotiations during her visit to Kuwait.

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt severed diplomatic ties as well as all air, sea and land links to Qatar, accusing the gas-rich Gulf state of supporting terrorism and aligning with Iran against Arab interests, which Doha has repeatedly denied.
