KAMPALA, Feb 22. (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Woodball Federation (UWBF) has confirmed that they will field a team at the 2018 World Cup to take place in Thailand.

Mark Kayongo, President of the Federation told Xinhua on Thursday that they will enter a full team for the event slated for July 24-30 in Chiangdao, Thailand. "We believe that playing at the World Cup helps develop our players better," added Kayongo.

He said Team Uganda has been at four Woodball World Cup events since 2010 with support from the government and the Embassy of China in Uganda.

"The Embassy of China in Uganda has been our supporters in pushing us to develop the sport and of course we shall contact them again to support the team going for the World Cup," added Kayongo.

Uganda's team will be comprised of 6 men and 6 women who will all be picked from the national trials. China, Malaysia and South Korea are among the top teams that will also play in the 2018 World Cup.

Uganda's Lillian Zawedde and Onesmus Atamba won gold in the mixed doubles at the 2016 World Cup held in South Korea, while the men's team finished 3rd overall.
