JERUSALEM, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Israel's goal is to realize 10 percent of its electrical grid generated by the solar energy by the year of 2020 and 17 percent by 2030, said the Electricity Authority of the country.

According to the Electricity Authority's annual report published on Wednesday, since 2017, investment in solar energy has increased significantly, as now there are 10,000 solar system installations all over the country that provides 3 percent of the entire electrical grid.

The Israeli government said the solar panel technologies became better and cheaper over the years, and the primary suppliers of the panels to Israel are Germany and China.

The Electricity Authority had operated with a vast bureaucracy which scared lots of potential investors in Israel's clean energy projects. But this year, it cut the red tape as part of a new strategy.

In the past two decades since Israel discovered vast amounts of gas under the water of the Mediterranean sea, continuous transformation of energy sources has been ongoing in the power stations of the country.

In 2004, only 9 percent of Israel's electricity was generated by gas, and last year, it grew to 54 percent, while the use of coal declined from 78 percent to 45 percent.

Many environmental movements in the country are pressuring the government to stop using polluting energy sources and move to clean energies as primary sources of the country's power.
