NAIROBI, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Former Harambee Stars captain Musa Mohammed has put pen to paper after agreeing terms with Zambia Premier League giants Nkana.

The Kenyan international on Monday signed a two-year deal, which will see him try to win the Zambian league with his new club.

This will settle any rumors about the defender's next step, after he was unceremoniously sacked by Albanian second-tier side KF Tirana in May after just four months at the European club.

"I finally have secured a contract with a big club. It has been three difficult months for me without playing football and my future uncertain," said Mohammed on Monday.

"It is a fresh start for me and I thank all who made this possible. I will work hard to repay their trust in me. Nkana is the biggest club in Zambia and now am part of it."

Though the club did not disclose the contract amount on its website, sources said Mohammed, 27, will walk home with over 100,000 U.S. dollars cumulatively at the end of the two year deal.

The Kenyan defender has selected jersey number 5.

The new deal will elevate Mohammed in his quest to play for national team Harambee Stars.

Head coach Sebastien Migne had expressed his concerns in June during the Hero Intercontinental Cup in Mumbai, India over the player's fitness, after his absence from club football.

Mohammed's move to Zambia will increase the number of Kenyan players in the FAZ league to nine.

That might jump to 10 if another Kenyan defender, Eugene Asike, is cleared to join Kabwe Warriors. Asike is also in Zambia for trials and contract negotiations.

Other Kenyans in Zambia are Jesse Were, David Owino and Jesse Were who are at Zesco United, John Mark Makwatta and Clifton Miheso (Buildcon), Andrew Tololwa and Ian Otieno (Red Arrows) and Ismail Dunga (Napsa Stars). Enditem
