LONDON, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Premier League champion Manchester City has signed Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City for 60 million pounds, making the Algerian star the most expensive player in the club's history.

"It means a lot for me. I'm very happy and I will give my best for this club," said Mahrez, who had already been linked with the Blues early in January.

Mahrez has signed a five-year contract with the City, adding further strength to the talent-studded powerhouse.

The 27-year-old forward was a key member in the Leicester squad that launched a miraculous campaign to claim the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season. He scored a total of 48 goals in his 179 apperance for Leicester.
