HANOI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's General Department of Sports and Physical Training said on Thursday that its athletes are determined to win between three and five gold medals at the 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD) in Indonesia later this year.

A total of 352 Vietnamese athletes will compete in 32 out of 40 events at the 2018 ASIAD, said the department's deputy head Tran Duc Phan.

Notable athletes expected to be in the running for medals include Olympic gold medalist Hoang Xuan Vinh, swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, weightlifters Thach Kim Tuan and Trinh Van Vinh, runner Le Tu Chinh, long jumper Bui Thi Thu Thao, gymnast Le Thanh Tung, Wushu athlete Duong Thuy Vi, Taekwondo fighter Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, Karatedo fighter Nguyen Thi Ngoan, and cyclist Nguyen Thi That.

At the previous ASIAD in 2014 in South Korea, Vietnam ranked 21st in the overall medal tally, with one gold, 10 silvers and 25 bronzes. The country's best performance at an ASIAD was in 2002 in South Korea, when its athletes grabbed four golds.
