NANJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen repeated their men's doubles victory over Japan's Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda as what they did at this year's Asian championships by 21-12, 21-19, lifting their first world title in the 2018 BWF World Championships.

"I had never thought we could be so lucky, because we were knocked out in the first round last year. We just wanted to have a better result this year but step by step we made it to the final," Li said.

The Chinese duo took the initiative for most of the game, launching fierce attacks against their opponents. Although Kamura and Sonoda managed to level the game at 7-7, Li and Liu were able to pierce their defense with smashes and earned a one-game advantage after collected six straight points.

The second game was much more intense as the two sides exchanged the lead several times. The Japanese duo was just one step away from their game point by leading 19-16, but the Chinese pair surged ahead winning five consecutive points to seal the victory.

"No matter what strategy the opponents take, we try to play the game in our own style," Liu said.

China and Japan ended up the tournament as the biggest winners, grabbing seven and six medals respectively.
