SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck Amukta Island of Alaska on Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake occurred at an area about 22 km south-southeast off Amukta in Alaska in the northwest U.S. region, and there were no reports of casualties or property loss.

The epicenter, with a depth of about 35.1 km, was located at 52.288 degrees north latitude and 171.185 degrees west longitude.

No tsunami warnings were issued following Saturday's earthquake, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.

On Jan. 29, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake hit the Gulf of Alaska, which triggered a cellphone warning that a tsunami could hit the southern coast of Alaska, causing panic among residents in some communities.
