GAZA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement criticized on Monday the decision to convene the Central Council of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) "without a national consensus."

Abdulatif al-Qanou'a, Hamas spokesman in Gaza told Xinhua that holding the Palestinian Central Council meeting without a national consensus "would certainly solidify internal division and promote secession."

He said that the Central Council meetings "are worthless because of its loss of national consensus, and its reliance on councils and institutions that are lacking legitimacy, and this of course will not serve the Palestinian interest."

Earlier on Monday, Salim Za'noon, speaker of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), the parliament in exile of the PLO, announced that the Central Council of the PLO will convene in Ramallah in late October.

The PNC is the highest Palestinian establishment representing all the Palestinians all over the world. The Central Council is the mini-parliament of the PLO, which has an executive committee chaired by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

"The council will discuss fierce attack on the Palestinian cause, which targets the national project and the legal rights of return and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital," said Za'noon.

Palestinian officials announced earlier that the PLO Central Council would make "decisive" decisions on the internal situation in light of the ongoing differences with the Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip since mid-2007. Enditem
