LISBON, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva said on Monday that Portugal has "all the commitment" to maintain the level of bilateral and multilateral relations with Brazil following the presidential election in the country.

"We register the result of the election, we greet the president-elect and, for our part, we are committed to continue the same level of relationship, both bilaterally and multilaterally," Santos Silva told Portuguese Lusa News Agency.

Santos Silva stressed that the two countries have a "very rich" bilateral agenda and, at the multilateral level, are partners in the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the Ibero-American Conference, the "two very important regional organizations" in which Portugal has "worked closely with Brazil" and will continue to do so.

In addition to the "presence of strong communities, Portuguese in Brazil and Brazilian in Portugal," the minister stressed the economic relationship and investment of the two governments in strengthening scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

He said that although Brazil, Portugal's former colony, is no longer one of the 10 main trading partners of Portugal, "it remains a very important commercial and economic partner" of the European country.

He said that he hoped and was confidence that Brazil will continue to have the same commitment, if not more, in the CPLP. "

Jair Bolsonaro, 63, retired Brazilian Army captain, was elected on Sunday in the second round of presidential elections the 38th president of Brazil with 55.1 percent of the votes.
