KAMPALA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Vipers SC have qualified for the first round of the lucrative Confederation of African Federation (CAF) Champions League.

The Vipers SC team beat Sudan's Al Merreikh 1-0 in the return leg played on Wednesday at the St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende.

Abraham Ndugwa scored the important goal to see the Ugandan team qualify on a 3-2 goal aggregate. Vipers SC lost the first leg 2-1 in Khartoum, but the away goal they scored which counted for two according to the rules helped.

Vipers SC created some good scoring chances but failed to utilize them. The Al Merriekh team also had Tag Abdel miss a great opportunity.

Vipers SC's head coach Javier Martinez Espinosa told Xinhua that although they won and qualified, it was not the best performance.

"We need to improve going forward," Espinosa said after the game.

Vipers SC will now wait to face the winners between Gambia's Gamtel FC and Algeria's Constatine FC.

While Vipers SC are representing Uganda in the CAF Champions League, KCCA FC will represent in the CAF Confederations Cup.
