JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- South African prosecutors on Thursday provisionally dropped corruption charges against former South African President Jacob Zuma's son, Duduzane Zuma.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it was unable to continue with the case for now because former deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas is yet to conclude his testimony at the state capture inquiry. Jonas testimony implicates Duduzane.

"In this case, the prosecutors deemed it necessary to wait for that case. Not all prosecutors could decide that they would wait for the state capture inquiry," NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondana said.

Duduzane was officially charged with corruption, with an alternative count of conspiracy to commit corruption after he allegedly attempted to bribe former deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas in 2016. He was released on R100,000 (7,267 U.S. dollars) bail in July.

Last year, Jonas testified at the state capture inquiry that Duduzane and his business partner Ajay Gupta offered him a post of finance minister and R600 million (43.6 million U.S. dollars) bribe in exchange for executive decisions favorable to the interest of the Gupta family.
