KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait launched on Thursday the 17th Firemen's Day Festival, which will last for three days in Kuwait city.

Khalil Al-Amir, director of Public Relations and Media Department, and chairman of the celebrations committee at the General Fire Department of Kuwait, said that the celebration of Firemen's Day coincides with the International Day of Civil Defense, which falls on March 1.

Al-Amir affirmed that the festival is an appreciation of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate's efforts as well as their major role in reducing disasters and providing ways of safety and security for society.

"We must remember the sacrifices they make to protect lives and property throughout the year and it is an opportunity to introduce citizens and residents to the effort of firefighters in dealing with various accidents," he said.

At the festival, several activities were held such as military show, fire boat show and fire trucks display.
