HELSINKI, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The Finnish transport agency advises British citizens living in Finland to replace their British driving licenses with Finnish ones before the planned Brexit on March 29. Finnish national broadcaster Yle reported on Sunday.

A no-deal Brexit would affect British license validity in the European Union, and British citizens living in the EU may need to take new driving tests after the planed Brexit, if they do not change their British licenses for European ones before March 29, said the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.

"It's a good idea to switch your driver's license now, especially if it includes entitlements to drive heavy vehicles. After a possible withdrawal from the EU, driver's licenses issued in the UK will be categorized as a license from a so-called third country, which would mean that those who are now qualified to drive a lorry, bus or coach would have to complete a new professional driving qualification, for example," Paivi Wood, development manager at the agency, was quoted as saying.

The exchange of driving licenses can be processed at any service points of Ajovarma, the service provider of Traficom.

If the British licenses of British drivers living in Finland have been expired for longer than the above mentioned cut-off periods, a new driving exam, including both theory and driving tests, is required to abstain a Finnish driving license, said Traficom.
