WUHAN, April 30 (Xinhua) -- A light show brightened up the night sky along the Wuhan section of the Yangtze River, China's longest, as well as its major tributary Hanjiang River Tuesday, as a tribute to laborers before May Day.

The one-hour feast for the eyes featured lit up bridges, tourist attractions and hundreds of buildings along 13.2-km-long banks of the two rivers. The show is believed to be the largest of its kind in all cities along the Yangtze River.

The highlights of the event was a 15-minute light animation show, which introduced the history of Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, and displayed the beautiful scenery along the rivers.

"This was the first time that I saw the bright Guishan Hill and Sheshan Hill at night. I have lived in Wuhan for more than 40 years. I am so excited and proud to be invited to watch the show," a citizen surnamed Li said.

"Just imagine when we draw pictures using landscapes as a large canvas, the riverbank, buildings, bridges and even cruise ships can be part of the show at night," said Wu Zhanlai, vice general manager of the Wuhan Tourism Development & Investment Group, the event undertaker.

According to Wu, it took the city years to put this light show "on stage." Organizers even sought submissions of outstanding designs from all over the world to make the show more stylish.
