PARIS, May 26 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Yafan lost her opening match to Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3 in women's singles of French Open here on Sunday, conceding five matches in a row this clay season.

The 56th-ranked Wang won her maiden WTA title in Acapulco, while going through totally different scenario on clay. Her 19-year-old opponent, however, shocked reigning French Open champion Simona Halep earlier in Rome.

Both players traded breaks into the duel. Vondrousova began to stay ahead with precise crosscourt shots and led 4-1 midway through the first set.

Wang moved closer to Vondrousova with two games in a row afterwards, but the Czech steadied for a 6-4 win.

Vondrousova had an early break in the second set and went on to build a 4-2 advantage. Although Wang came back from 40-0 down in the seventh game to maintain her serve, Vondrousova managed to secure her second round berth at 6-3 with her fifth break of the match.

Wang suffered 28 unforced errors, compared with Vondrousova's 16.

"She did well on drop shots. I failed to play aggressively, and made many unforced errors," admitted Wang.

Wang said that she somewhat lost patience on clay, not making sufficient preparation for long rallies in the match.

Vondrousova will next take on Russian teenager Anastasia Potapova, who stunned three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber of Germany 6-4, 6-2.
